Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Perth constituency, has welcomed the Minister for the Environment’s visit to Perth to discover more about the city’s Cittaslow status.
The invitation was extended and accepted during Ministerial Questions in the Scottish Parliament earlier in the Parliamentary session. Speaking today (Friday) Roseanna said:
“I am pleased that the Environment Minister has come to Perth to find out more about the city’s Cittaslow status and to help promote Cittaslow to the rest of the country.
“Cittaslow status confirmed Perth as being at the vanguard of progressive developments in Scotland’s food industry.
“Concern for the environment and a desire for locally produced, good quality, sustainable food is becoming increasingly important to consumers and it is on those cornerstones that Perth’s commitment to the Cittaslow movement is based.
“Today’s visit follows on from a reception sponsored by Perth and Kinross Council that was held in Parliament earlier this year.
"One of the duties of cities with Cittaslow status is to promote the concept and the parliamentary reception and today’s Ministerial visit help with that.
“But this is not an onerous duty. Everyone connected with Cittaslow in Perth is proud of what the city is doing and wants to see other parts of Scotland follow suit. Just as Perth’s pioneering Farmers’ Markets have seen similar enterprises springing up around the country I hope that Perth will be the first of many Scottish towns and cities to commit to Cittislow. |
