ROSEANNA & PETE MEET WITH HEALTHWORKS CAMPAIGNERS
Friday, 21 March 2008
Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perth and Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of the Westminster Parliament for Perth and North Perthshire, met this afternoon (Friday)  with members of the committee campaigning to save the Healthworks leisure centre at Pitheavlis in Perth.

Speaking today (Friday) Roseanna said:

“We were both hugely impressed by the work that has been done by the campaign group and how they have picked up on the issues in such a short space of time.

“Unfortunately, not content with having walked away, Norwich Union now appear to be being unhelpful as the campaign group seek information on the running costs of the centre.

“Both Pete and I will be contacting Norwich Union to insist that they give assistance to the campaign group so that the transition can be as easy as possible.

“We will also need to make early contact with the site owners, Land Securities Trillium, to see how they can help facilitate the process.  It is, after all, in their interests to ensure that they do not end up with a site that is not making them a profit.”

Pete Wishart added:

“I will be liaising with the Norwich MPs who are facing a similarly situation in their own patch and we will be meeting with Norwich Union management again to ensure co-operation with the campaign group.

“Even though they have chosen to walk away, Norwich Union still has a responsibility to ensure a smooth transition.

“I would urge continued support for Healthworks from all users – members and non-members alike – during this period and we all recognise that the timescale imposed on the campaign group is exceptionally challenging for everyone.”
